Is it legal to build the foundation of a business yourself

My dad used to be a construction worker when he was in el salvador. Were trying to build a banquet hall here in texas and were look ing at regualtions and permits. We know that you have to have licenses for electricity and plumbing but for construction they have just permits. does this mean we can build this part ourselves?.--Answer1:That would depend on the town building codes. Check at city hall and see. You may need someone with a special license to do the actual construction, but you may be able to build it yourself and just have the town approve it when its done. Every city or town has their own rules and regulations about things like this, so we really cant tell you for sure..--Answer2:You can do any part of a house you know how to do. So if you dont know what goes into doing a foundation, then you should not do it.But if you know the electrical, plumbing, heating, etc, then you can do that too. If you can build it to code, then by all means. But I know that there are some inspectors who will never pass a building unless they know who did it. No matter how well done the job. Its unethical, but thats the way it is.
