i own a large building from which we run our business. we have a lot of excess space though, and i am considering opening up a mens hairdresser as we have a small office size room available which would be perfect for this. my question to the masses is what would i need to consider? do i need certain licenses of permission from the council? how would i go about hiring a barber - i was told that you usually rent chairs out to barbers who keep the takings, but obviously pay rent per chair - but i was more interested in hiring a barber and paying him/her wages. are there other important aspects i would also need to consider? Answer1:Make a sign sayingGRAND OPENING AT ( your hairdresser stores name ) ! FREE WALK-INS ( if you want walk-ins i would prefer you do that so they can check out the place and could buy some hair things.it would look like thisGRAND OPENING AT JEREMYS CHOP SHOP!Free walk-ins!also you can buy a package of lolipops ( for the kids )and put it in a bowl or cup.ALSO buy a cool coffee table and buy oh lets say 2-3 coloring books or even REALLY CHEAP reading books and magazines. make sure you buy crayons and dont get mad if they scribble all over the book.HOPE THIS HELPS!!and good luck with your Grand Opening Hair Dresser! Answer2:The people in the hairdressing industry are but the quintessential partyers of the masses. They work their hours around their partying. Hiring one to work for you by the hour might work but getting the right fit with personality, outlook, ethics and dedication to both their own purpose and yours will be most difficult (not impossible) just tough. I would start getting my hair cut once a week using a different shop every time until I found the right person for the job. Their undeclared income is everything they make each day week month. They cant give that hidden untaxed ( tips) income up, just like bar tenders and waitresses cant. Having a chair with a good human being, able to talk to customers on many levels is every hairdresser shop owners dream. matching the personality, decor and hours to match your overall businesses look and direction is admirable and think it would definitely promote new business as well as lock in business not so locked in. a multi services company especially retail where services are offered and in in a combined attempt to allow people to get two even three things done at once would be overwhelming. In fact franchise the idea to the world. baby sitting, dry cleaners, gym, smoothie stand and barber all under one roof. Genius!
