How to manage teams remotely

We are a small software company in India. We have offices in two southern cities, which has development and sales teams. Our debate of late has been whether to consolidate the offices in one location, which would mean higher capital outflow for a bigger office in one city or manage teams remotely, augmented with structured and frequent travels. My opinion is to go with remote option. I have not done this before, but i have heard a lot about this. Can anyone throw some light on the subject and also suggest a way forward?ThanksJoseph.--Answer1:i suggest you that put an in-charge at each location and ask him to submit DAY-TO-DAY updates and put a weekly meeting with the teams through phone (Like VOIP) and if possible make a vist in every month or once in 3 months. make sure that in-chargers in the location are the one who you belive. In critical Situation make your prasence..--Answer2:The best way to manage teams remotely is to use a very long whip!
