I recently got asked to watch 3 kids (ages 9, 5, 1) from 5:30am to 5:30pm weekdays. She said she paid her last babysitter $600 a month, but that is 60 hours a week! Im 22 and have my own 1 year old, so my hands will be full if I take the job. How much should I ask for? The family is military and I know they dont make a lot, but they make more than I do. My husband is in the military and we dont have two incomes like they do. I am also responsible for food. How much would you charge? (theyll be dropping the kids off at my house, so I wont have to drive.).--Answer1:if you take the $600 and work 60 hours You will make under 3$ an hour. Which is illegal unless you make tips (which Im sure you wont) Tell her you wont take less than minimum wage in your state. Her last babysitter must have been 13 to accept that kind of payment. Since you are working 12 hour days, its a little different. At 16 When I watched three kids (8, 6, 3) I charged $10 initially, and $8.00 an hour. the thing is, I was only working 6 hours at most. If there were problems the mother willingly paid me extra. eg( the 8 yr old threw a knife at the little one and cut his head. I had to get an ambulance, calm the kids down, and punish the older one. so I got an extra 20 bucks) btw, he was fine after some stitches. It depends on the kids. if they are horrid, then $15 an hour. if they are well mannered between 7 and 12 an hour. But to babysit 3 kids for under 3 an hour is ridiculous.--Answer2:Since it will be almost more than full time job, you should get at least $2500 in the US or Pounds 1500 in the UK. Good luck..
