My account executive at a company I do business with at work often says things like "one of my large clients did so and so" or "one of my large clients complained about the same thing" etc.The thing is, that company has only been around for 3 years, they did a restructuring about a year ago, and their CEO was replaced maybe 6 months ago. There was a big issue with a purchase a while back where I threatened to leave them altogether if they didnt fix it, and after saying that they agreed to my terms. Is the account executive just trying to make it seem like they really do have all these large clients to talk themselves up? Or is this like they dont want to appear needy? Or is this a tactic to try to get me to spend more? Its getting a little rude at this point, like they dont appreciate our business..--Answer1:Look for another company to do business with as it appears this account executive is blowing smoke and wishes to appear larger than they appear to be. A restructuring and change of CEO indicates possible turmoil within the company. In the current economic atmosphere a company must cherish and service their paying clients in order to keep them coming back for repeat business. It sounds unprofessional to be speaking of their other clients and business dealings. This account executive may be attempting to get you to do business his way rather than to your preference.A friend once told me that when you go into business for yourself that all your clients are your bosses and therefore, you must listen to their needs and desires. Mega corporations can get away with doing business their way since, they have the resources, expertise, knowlege...etc. that clients seek. But, this sounds as though you are utilizing a small or medium-sized business that could be struggling now.Go with your instincts and gut feelings. If you can not obtain results at a reasonable price with the results you desire, seek out new sources.
