What the best (and cheapest) way to ship a large oriental carpet

I wanted to send it freight UPS, but they said itd be almost $700 to ship! Its about an 8x11ft oriental that weighs about 70 lbs rolled up. Also, do I need to get a box or do you just use plastic? Where can I find one that big to fit a rug in?
Answer1:If you arent in a hurry friend, the best way is through plain postal service, and through person-to-person service. That way, there are less taxes. at best, you can have the carpet shipped to a person in that country, then have him or her ship it to you. That way, the shipping is considered by law as a "personal transaction" and not a "commercial transaction", freeing you of all those unwanted import taxes, etc. As for your packaging, I would recommend a box, as plastic would easily fall apart. Good luck with your carpet my friend. =)

      Answer3:I agree with the Baron....sounds nice :)
Answer4:it depends on where are your going to send the carpet.i have some experiences from my friends whos is dealing with oriental carpets business: they roll up very tightly and put the carpet in a plastic bag first, why? the plastic is water-proof and will keep the carpet " dry", otherwise, you are going to have a big problem if it is wet. then covered by another plastic pouch ( like the bag used for shipping rice ). this will protect the plastic bags and carpets.then you could gave it to the shipping company and send it to the place where it should go if it is only one pc. normally, the shipping company should put it into containers. this will cost you much less than ups.
