i have been on and off college now for about 9 years. I enjoy self educating myself more than anything, i am a web developer and just started my own business. im 26 now and what i want to ask you is (even though whatever option i choose is a risk) i hate working for someone, not that anyone likes it but in the long run if things dont work out for me, what would be better to show on a resume having a degree or owning a business?
      Answer1:dont quit youve already spent 9 years in college. it would be such a waste of time and money. finish up its not going to hurt anything and your 26 for gods sake its not like your 90
      Answer2:I would look at the degree as something to fall back on. I have a friend who owned a roofing business while in school. Due to the economy and the weather, he had to shut it down. But coming this May hell have a BS degree. On his resume he can put down that he owned a roofing business for x amount of years, maintained it while in school for however long, and obtained his BS degree.He says he also took so long to get the degree. Another friend is getting the same degree but wont use it. I think its an either or situation. Owning a business will show a potential employer one attribute while having a degree will show another. Maybe it depends on the major?

      Answer4:If you are close to finishing college then you should finish. You have already invested a lot of time and money and if you leave that investment would have been a waste. A college degree is a very valuable asset to have on a resume. There are many jobs that will not consider someone unless they have some sort of degree. Owning a business can look good too, but the natural question for the recruiter will be, "Why isnt this person working for themselves anymore?" Running an unsuccessful business that fails may be more of a liability than an asset on your resume.
