Is there any help out there for self-employed contractors with no work

Not all contractors made a killing prior to this recession so not everyone has a savings to fall back on. Some were making enough after overhead and paying employees enough to pay household bills. My husband hasnt had work in months as well as many of his friends that are also contractors. I work but am quickly sinking in debt trying to keep our family fed and the other necessities. I make too much for any county/state assistance but not enough to do it alone. Has anyone found any programs out there being offered to people in this situation.
Answer1:Yes, there are job placement agencies that can get you temporary work. It may be packing boxes one day, labouring or whatever the next. You just have to be willing to do different work.
Answer2:Your husband is in a tough industry. Perhaps he should work for a temp agency or he should switch careers. Is there anything else he is skilled in? Or something he could pick up without expensive schooling?
Answer3:Hey Sheila -I feel for you and your family.I have a home based business that is working well for me and my wife. I dont know if you have considered trying a home based business, but in todays economy I think it just makes good sense. The days of job security and steady employment are gone 2 generations ago.To succeed in this world you need to make your own opportunities and create multiple streams of income, so if one source of income dries up you still have several others bringing funds in.Anyway, something to think about.Good luck to you and your husband!
