I live in US. I want to make money off my design/illustration skills at home. I do not want this to take over my day job. I only plan on doing few, small projects once per few weeks (such as on my weekends), therefore only making me a couple hundred $ per month. Its just pocket money, I have no desire to expand farther than that at this time. In fact I may not even do it that regularly. Just something if I have the urge to do it.However, I am clueless as to the legal process for this. Am I supposed to register myself as a small/micro business with someone? Is there some kind of process Im supposed to go through to get started? Or can I just go ahead and get started doing projects (I already have networks/clients that I can start exploring) and then pay taxes on the income I make? Where can I find info on how to do that anyway?I have one experience years ago where I was a freelance teacher on a computer art program, I got paid $800 for one day. I filled out an extra form during tax time and paid the tax. Is that really all I have to do if I end up going forward with this plan? Just start making money as long as I pay the tax man? Or is this different since Im doing this kind of service on a regular, albeit extremely limited, basis?
