Is it legal to withhold pay like this

My husband just received a letter from his employer stating that the company is almost $400,000 in the hole and that the paychecks that the employees are supposed to receive on Friday wont be given until Monday. Not only will they be late, but the will be for only half of the income earned. The other half wont be paid out until a week later. My husband told me that part of the reason the company is so much in debt is that the owner went crazy buying new trucks and fixing up the office before collecting all money due. This is not my husbands fault or any of the other employees! Is there anything we can do about this or are we just sol?
Answer1:if they do not have the money,,how can they payhe is lucky he has a jobIf this becomes a regular thing, report them to the labor department. Most likely will cause the company to close and your husband to lose his job.
Answer2:Since most companies are non union, and at will employers, they can do just about anything they want in order to stay in business. Just look at it this way, they could just let your husband go and not pay him at all. Everyone will need to accept things like this to keep companies in business. Although it is not your husbands fault, remember he always has the option to attempt to find another job, but good luck with that. If a company does not have the funding to pay the employees, they do not have it, what would you want them to do? go another 200,000 or so in debt and close their doors for good?
