i am worried. whenever i want to book a hotel they request my card details to secure the reservations. i have to tell them card number, exp date, last 3 digits from the back of card, my name, and they have also my personal details: name, surname, and when i use a hotel they have my address, date of birth, ID number ,etc.1) is this not enough info for someone to go online and use my card to buy from web stores? if so how do u secure this risk?2) could someone use these details to phone my bank and pretend to be me giving them all the details and steal my money? Lloyds ask security questions like names, date of birth, mothers maiden name, which are easy to get for a robber. how do u secure this risk?
      Answer1:Ive been doing exactly what you describe for 10+ years, and never had a problem (or one that I know of!).
      Answer2:check the address bar while paying,if it is https(hyper text transfer protocol secured) rather than http than u can go ahead....
      Answer3:It is extremely safe as long as you use website where the padlock appears either in the status bar along the bottom of your screen or next to the address bar. Once you have typed you details in they are invisible to shop and can only be seen by yourself if you log back in with your password some shops only show 4 digits of the card to ensure that they are still correct and others show none. I have used my card on the internet for about 8 years and I have never had a problem!

An easy way to tell if the website is safe to pay online using your card is by checking the link right in the address bar.This is just a mere example, but if you see this:https://www.paypal.com/paymentThats not a real link to a site, that was just a simple example. If you see the letter "s" right after the "http" at the beginning of the link in the address bar, that actually stands for security meaning that the website purchase is verified as secure.There is no way that people can fake the "s" in front of it because, using paypal as an example, the website using paypal to receive online purchases would have to have a legal license and credentials to use paypal. This license is validated with every purchase, so while the page loads your purchase (this is just in very simple terms) the validation of that license is actually sent through, and if successful the "https" appears.Other fake or scamming websites may use other payment methods, but if you do not see "https" that means that it is not a secured transaction and you should not do it.Hope that helps.Also just a small tip, what I do is after every online purchase you should receive what is much like an online receipt on your screen. I simply save a copy of that, (even if you print screen) name and date it and then simply encrypt the file. You can download any simple free encrypting program online (encrypting simply means it is altered by a secret code so that unauthorised people trying to look at it will not be able to make any sense of it because it will look like random jibberish letters and symbols). The encryption program usually is also able to decrypt that information, as when you encrypt files you need to put a password to it, and that same password is used again to decrypt it.
